2012 Award Recognition Categories
Award Category: Business Innovation

The Business Innovation Award recognizes a company/organization whose IT initiatives implemented in the 2011 calendar year enabled significant business innovation or improvement.

Two awards will be conferred: one for small companies/organizations and one for medium to large companies/organizations.

Award Criteria

The Business Innovation Award winner will have implemented an IT initiative from January through December 2011 that generated the most significant business results or impact relative to company size among all nominated companies. The company’s focus will have pushed the envelope on implementing not only existing technologies and methodologies but those that are also on the ‘cusp’ of usable and accepted societal & business trends. Examples of the approach can include but are not limited to:

  • Sustainability / Green / Solar Energy
  • (Health-Care) Aging Population / Human Augmentation
  • Global IT Economics
  • Pervasive Bandwidth / Activity Streams
  • Audio-Video Analytics / Predictive Analytics / Behavioral Economics
  • Media Tablets
  • Social – Learning Platforms / Social Casting / Persona Management
  • T-Commerce
  • Distributed Workforce / Gamification

Along with incorporating a new trend in technology, the initiative should demonstrate concrete business results, such as:

  • Cost Savings
  • Providing the company entry into a new market
  • Improved Productivity
  • New Products
  • Reduced Cycle Times
  • Improved Processes
  • Competitive Advantage
  • New Business Models
  • Effective Sales/Marketing

Award Category: Community Outreach

The Community Outreach Award is presented to a company/organization that through IT has made an outstanding contribution to the people of the St. Louis region.

Award Criteria

The Community Outreach Award winner will have provided the most among all nominees to the St. Louis region through volunteer efforts from January through December 2011. Examples of such efforts include helping local learning institutions, rehabilitation centers, shelters, etc., through efforts that might include but are not limited to:

  • Providing solutions that enabled the organization to lower their operational costs
  • Volunteering employee time to teach IT skills
  • Providing IT hardware/software at reduced prices or no charge
  • Using IT to enable delivery of and increasing the service capacity to the targeted constituents of the not-for-profit services
  • Mentoring others in their IT development
  • Offering opportunities to IT students

Award Eligibility (all categories):
All information technology companies and information technology departments, units, etc., located within the St. Louis region are eligible. Information technology for these awards includes IT Services (consulting, contracting, processing, data storage); Software (programs, programming processes); Hardware (mainframe, PC, networks, technology devices such as handhelds, etc.); and Data Networks (wired and wireless communications, network security, etc.).

Nominations should be submitted through the Gateway to Innovation website Candidates can be nominated (via self-nomination or nomination by others) for any or all of the awards.


What You Need to Submit:
• Company and contact information for the CEO, CEO Administrative Assistant, CIO and personal contact information.
• Public relations representative contact information if applicable.
• Company logo (less than 2MB; PDF or EPS format; at least 300 dpi). Please note: all logos submitted before the close of nominations on February 18, 2012, that meet the resolution requirements will be included on a banner at the event.
• A statement (500 words or less) summarizing how your company or organization meets the relevant award criteria.

Selection Process:
An Awards Voting Committee, selected from members of the Gateway to Innovation 2011 Honorary Advisory Committee, will represent a variety of industry sectors (such as academia, biotechnology, finance, government, healthcare, manufacturing, retail and service providers) and will include one tiebreaker. The Awards Voting Committee will determine the award recipients for each category.


Recognition:
Finalists will be announced on the G2I web site and via press release to the media in late March 2012. Awards will be announced at the Gateway to Innovation Conference on April 26, 2012. Award winners will be featured in an issue of St. Louis Commerce Magazine following the event.
